The Florida Lynching Project is a memorial and educational tool for learning about the racial violence that has taken place within the state. This is an ongoing collaborative project of students at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. Our ultimate goal is to provide documented information to light and detail all 250 deaths as listed in Marvin Dunn’s text The Beast of Florida. We have created a digitally interactive map listing the locations of each event. In addition to this, we currently have six of the lynchings documented with detailed case information and other found media. We hope you find this site helpful and appreciate information and comments that will aid our cause to document the memory of racial violence in our state. Healing begins with truth-telling.
